We have been counting down the days until the 4th of July for weeks now. Not only does it mean friends, family and a 3-day weekend, but it also guarantees a smorgasbord of some of the year's best eats. Sizzling meats and cold treats are the fair of the day. And, if your pants still fit by the fireworks display, you're probably not celebrating correctly. In our Monday #nomday post on Twitter, we asked followers what they're making this holiday. Responses included:
lastnightsdinnr@GoodBite smoking a pork shoulder if we can get our hands on a good one. Also having friends over for cocktails/nibbles t/b/d. #nomday
haleysuzanne@GoodBite we're having a mexican fiesta / cookout. grilled pork tacos, tostones, guac, homemade salsa, salsa criolla, grilled corn #nomday
lonebaker@goodbite Family needs to vote: 1)pulled pork sand. 2) peppery grilled ribeyes 3) tacos: slowcooked beef / homemade corn tortillas. @nomday
TheNaptimeChef@GoodBite roasted tomato salad w/ fresh mozz, cold cous-cous salad, grilled swordfish, homemade peach ice cream, wine and beer #nomday
We even did our own informal office poll and plans included Prosseco with mashed strawberry cocktails, Persian chicken kabobs, shrimp and veggie skewers, potato salad, and swordfish ceviche. We love that everyone already knows what they are eating on Saturday; it's a topic we could dwell on all week. Actually, that's kind of what we want to do. We want to know what you're planning for Independence Day. What are your annual staples? Trying anything new this year? Are you going upscale and fancy, or having a laid back burger and dog affair? Are you feeding dozens or just the core fam? What do you think is the most important - meat, salads or dessert? We want to know all about what you have cooking this holiday. Seriously... we still need a good dessert recipe for our picnic.
