Hopefully by now you're not still reeling from the recent New Year's Eve festivities, but just in case anyone is still in recovery mode, and good to know for the future, peer down below for some oddball remedies for your next post-inebriation save.

1. Pickle Juice: In Poland, drinking pickle juice is the beverage of choice. Sometimes a bit of honey is added in as well. The fructose and glucose in the honey plus the salt in the pickle juice adds electrolytes back to the body. Or, just drink Gatorade.

2. Pedialyte: Speaking of Gatorade, a better option is Pedialyte, yup it’s for babies with diarrhea. The deal here is that this formula contains more electrolytes than Gatorade, so it rehydrates the body more quickly.

3. One Banana: Here's an easy one. Just grab a banana. When one drinks, the body loses potassium and this loss contributes to the symptoms of a hangover. Bananas contain tons of potassium and add the nutrient back into the body.

4. Lemon: Puerto Rican's swear by rubbing lemon on armpits as a way to avoid a hangover. The idealogy here is that the lemon prevents sweating, thus helping the body to retain fluid. This supposedly combats dehydration and headaches.

5. Tripe: Many cultures cite this edible offal as the miracle cure. The preparation of choice is usually in a soup with garlic, herbs, and sometimes hot peppers.

6. Eggs: Sounds random but it's supposed to be a sure thing. Eggs contain large doses of cysteine, a substance that breaks down acetaldehyde, one of the toxins that causes that hungover feeling.

7. Fried/Fatty Food: Here's the deal. While eating fries the day after won't cure a hangover, eating fries the night before just might. Extra greasy foods stick to the stomach wall long than non-fatty foods and help slow down the absorption of alcohol into the bloodstream.

8. Prickly Pear: The fruit of the prickly pear cactus is mostly made up of water but contains high levels or magnesium, and potassium. All of the above work to relieve hangover symptoms.

9. Haejangguk: This traditional Korean soup, which literally translates as "soup to chase a hangover," is composed of veggies, beef, and congealed ox blood. Yum. It's usually consumed after a night of heavy drinking.

10. Ginger: A well known digestive aid, ginger tea or ginger juice mixed with water is believed to relieve nausea by soothing the digestive lining and balancing gastric juices. Have a favorite hangover cure we missed? Feel free to share in the comments.
