Everyone wants a little luck o' the Irish on St. Patrick's Day, and there's no better way to get it than by enjoying some traditional Irish cooking. Many "Irish" recipes involve merely adding green food coloring to the same everyday foods which can make everyone at the dinner table feel, well, a little green. The green food coloring idea holds especially true when it comes to desserts. However, Europeancuisines.com offers traditional Irish dessert recipes, such as Chocolate Potato Cake and Apple Barley Pudding plus some good background on the tradition of the meals.

As for typical dinner entrĂ©es, there's always the safe bet of corned beef. Alton Brown has a basic recipe for this staple.

However, for a more modern take, try a spiked version of this mainstay, Guinness Corned Beef which could be served alongside bacon and cabbage or colcannon, a dish that calls for potatoes, cabbage, and bacon.

If corned beef isn't your thing, go for a simple stew, and don't forget it wouldn't be St.Patrick's Day without Irish Soda Bread.

If you plan to start cooking during the wee hours of the morning, try out this recipe for Ferg's Ulster Fry-Up a great way to fuel up before a long day in the kitchen.

Lastly, imbibe. Enjoy an Irish libation like Baileys Nutty Irishman or cap off the night with an Irish Coffee. -Alexa Santoro
