Though Meyer lemons look very similar to regular lemons, with a smoother, shinier skin, they taste quite different. A Meyer lemon is a cross between a regular lemon and a mandarin orange so the resulting flavor is an orange lemon hybrid, slightly sour with a strong perfume-y orange flavor- yum! We love Meyer lemons because they can elevate a simple dish into something that sounds much more elegant and complicated. Think about it. Lemon souffle or Meyer lemon souffle. Sounds more sophisticated, right? These special lemons originally hail from China and can be used in a multitude of ways. Pretty much any way you would use a lemon, you could sub in a Meyer lemon. Before getting into the recipe links, I want to share a quick sore throat-curing remedy. Growing up, whenever I would get a sore throat my mother would make this amazing comforting tea. Her recipe called for water, honey, sometimes fresh ginger, and lotsss of fresh lemon juice. I recently made this recipe with a Meyer lemon and it was just delicious. Meyer Lemon Tea 1 cup water 1 lemon 3 tablespoons honey (or more to taste) Pour water into pot and bring to boil. Reduce heat to medium, add honey and squeeze all the juice from lemon into water then drop in lemon halves as well. Turn off heat, strain liquid and pour into mug.
