Southwestern Egg Rolls

Friday, February 5 2010 - found on The Hungry Housewife - 0 Comments

Southwestern Egg Rolls Theme restaurants and chain bistros love to merge as many cuisines into a single appetizer as possible. We feel like we're always seeing commercials for T.G. McBenihan's Scottish Jalapeno Citrus Goat Cheese Udon Popplers or Thai Peanut French Toast Whizzers from Happy Thursday's. We have to admit the Southwestern Egg Rolls always look appealing, though we're just not that into chains. But, guess what?! The Hungry Housewife has a Southwestern Egg Roll recipe that's way more delicious and actually made of real ingredients.

Okonomiyaki aka Japanese Pizza

Friday, February 5 2010 - found on Visual Recipes - 6 Comments

Okonomiyaki aka Japanese Pizza Okonomiyaki is the Japanese answer to lazy dinner. The name roughly translates to "what you like, grilled," and it's sometimes referred to as "Osaka soul food." That's because it's essentially a fried pancake made of whatever you're in the mood for, or happen to have around. Visual Recipe's version only calls for four ingredients to start; from there, you can let your taste buds do the cooking.

Brown Butter, Bacon & Chocolate Chip Cookies It's funny that certain things can become quite trendy in the culinary community. Brown butter, that's a big one. Bacon... for sure. Even baking cookies has taken off in its own way. The problem is that often when trendy tricks and ingredients are incorporated into a recipe the original charm is lost. The challenge is to balance tradition and innovation. Tennessee Locavore hits this perfect stasis with Brown Butter, Bacon & Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Quickie Pickles

Thursday, February 4 2010 - found on Kitchen Scraps - 0 Comments

Quickie Pickles We've always been a little jealous of those people who have the patience to make their own pickles. We would really love a crispy, homemade pickle, but we're more likely to jump the gun and just get a jar. If you live in New York you've got Guss' Pickles or the Pickle Man, but what are the rest of us to do?

Popcorn? Delicious Popcorn?

Thursday, February 4 2010 - found on Dine & Dish - 0 Comments

Popcorn? Delicious Popcorn? Not to editorialize, but (who are we kidding, we love to editorialize) it seems to have been a pretty low moment for movies. Maybe its the current crop, or maybe the recession, but we've just preferred to rent lately. The only problem is it's hard to get a decent popcorn at home (or at the movie theater for that matter). Well, look no further than Dine and Dish's Perfect Popcorn.
